Sustainable West Seattle General Meeting

January 19, 2010
7:00 pmto9:00 pm

Note: Because of Martin Luther King Day we will be meeting on Tuesday, January 19.  And, because the Lodge at Camp Long is closed for long-overdue renovations, we will be meeting at the Senior Center of West Seattle, at 4217 SW Oregon St., around the corner from California Ave. SW.

We’re pleased to feature newly-elected Seattle City Councilor Mike O’Brien, a member of the Sierra Club and a member of the Viaduct Stakeholder Committee, at our January meeting.

The Sustainable West Seattle January General Meeting is our general election meeting when members are voted to the Coordinating Council.  The Coordinating Council is the “board of directors” for Sustainable West Seattle (see the SWS Bylaws file swsbylaws200801281.pdf for details).

Sustainable West Seattle is growing and we have room for additional members of the Coordinating Council.  SWS members who wish to help steer the organization and help plan future meetings and work from the inside out are encouraged to consider placing their names in nomination for 2010 Coordinating Council membership.  SWS General Membership votes on CC nominations.  The Coordinating Council (as per the Bylaws) then selects the SWS Officers from the Coordinating Council ranks.

The Coordinating Council meets the First Monday of each month, rotating the location each month at a different CC members house or meeting place of choice.  There are some particulars as noted in the Bylaws -

CC Member Nominations and Elections – Nominations for CC shall be accepted by the SWS Secretary up to the start of the annual meeting. After all nominees have had a chance to address the meeting, election votes will be cast and tallied per the rules outlined in Article 2.4 herein.

To contact the Secretary, use “secretary@sustainablewestseattle.org” or show up slightly early to the January 19th meeting.

In addition to the annual membership voting, other agenda items for the January General Meeting include a discussion on new projects which are underway such as the Tool Lending Library and a discussion on a possible Third Annual Sustainable West Seattle Festival.
